I am reviewing a website this post. This is a product Captain Stud uses and this is the website that I use. Without further fanfare, here is my totally unsponsored product review of Zenni Optical.
Captain Stud doesn't have 20/20 vision and chooses to wear glasses, not contacts. My hubby is also a studly guy and works a lot with his hands and tools. A majority of them are air powered and heavy or electrical with sharp sides. After maxing out our vision insurance a few years ago, I knew we needed a better (read: cheaper) way to get his (multiple pairs of) eyeglasses without breaking the bank.
Enter Zenni Optical. This is a great place to get a backup pair or a few pairs for the kids. They are not the most awesomely fantastic glasses, but, seriously, I don't want his work glasses to be. The other day, his glasses slipped off his face and were nearly cut in half by a power saw. That pair cost us $20 (including shipping) and lasted 10 months. That's a good deal in my book. There are cute, trendy, in vogue frames here, in addition to plain work glasses.
You just won’t find any designer name brand frames. Zenni Optical employs their own designers and then manufactures the glasses, so you are buying direct from the factory. As a result, arrival time can seem longer, but really it is faster. I called a local optometry place in a big box store and asked how long it takes them to get their glasses in and the answer was 3 weeks. It seems longer, because when I order something online, I expect it to be picked and shipped within a few days. In my experience, Zenni Optical is about a week faster than an optometry store.
The website is super easy to use. The many options for the lenses are self-explanatory. They developed a FAQ page that actually answers questions. The feature Captain Stud likes best is called "FRAME FIT". It allows you to upload your photo to try out glasses on your face. It isn't perfect. Much of the fault is in the uploaded photo, but it is useful and I recommend trying it out. There are a bunch of "How To" videos. If you still can't figure it out, a phone number and live chat are available. But orders can ONLY be placed online.
You will need a prescription from your optometrist. And the most annoying part, (because you will forget) is to get the pupillary distance measured. You can also order non-RX lens, but I'm at a loss as to why you would. Occasionally Zenni Optical will offer coupon codes via their subscription newsletter. But their glasses start at $7 and shipping is $5, so I'm not sure how much of a discount they can offer.
All in all, I recommend Zenni Optical for your eyeglass and sunglasses needs. We have used them for several years now, and I don't have any major complaints. Go show them some love and save your wallet in the process. (And no, I am not a Zenni Optical affiliate.)
